Disaster Preparation

In the event of a local weather disaster, whether it be related to snow, fire, tornado, flood, or anything that might hit our area, it is important to have a plan in place to help ensure the safety and wellbeing of yourself and your family. Term Life provides many resources on specific natural disasters.

If a major weather or manufactured disaster strikes our area, rest assured that Fire and Rescue personnel, in conjunction with local, state, and federal officials and agencies, will do everything possible to help maintain safety in our area. During a disaster, if you truely believe either yourself or a member of your family is suffering from a medical emergency, or you believe potentially life-threatening damage has occured in some way to your residence, do not hesistate in calling 911. Please note that in the event of severe weather conditions, Fire and Rescue response may potentially be significantly delayed.

Provided are several basic suggestions on disaster preparation, as well as several links to both local and national sources to help make even more detailed plans.

To help prepare your family for  a prolonged natural disaster response:

1) Prepare a “Disaster Supply Kit” of water, food, medicine, clothing, bedding,
communication devices, and other necessities. Follow these guidelines from Ready.gov.

2) Help your spouse and family prepare mentally, emotionally and physically for the possible event of your absence for 12 hours, 24 hours, or longer. Visit the American Red Cross for more tips.

3) Pre-determine several meeting locations with your family if your home is destroyed while
you are away or separated. Plan several rendezvous points in your neighborhood, community, and your general region in the event of seperation. Make a list of which location is priority, and how long your family should wait there for you.
