Purcellville Volunteer Rescue Squad was organized in 1969 to help provide pre-hospital medical assistance to citizens of the Purcellville, VA area. Started by members of the Purcellville Volunteer Fire Company and Leesburg Volunteer Fire and Rescue Companies, providers used basic first aid knowledge to respond to calls, treat patients, and transport to a recieving facility. Forty-one years later, PVRS has grown and flourished in many ways. From increased technology allowing providers to care for patients in a more sophisticated fashion, to improved ambulances allowing faster and safer transport, PVRS has been proud of staying on the forefront of technology to give the patient the best care available. While forty-one years is a long time, and volunteers have come and gone, at the core, Purcellville Rescue remains an able-bodied company dedicated to helping those in the community.
The goal of Purcellville Volunteer Rescue squad is to aid in the preservation of life, by maintaining, in the Town of Purcellville, Virginia, a rescue squad building and operating a trained, efficient, and dedicated volunteer emergency rescue service for the town of Purcellville, Philomont, Hillsboro and surrounding areas. Today, Purcellville Volunteer Rescue Squad has a membership of approximately 90 volunteers, both operational and administrative, with an apparatus pool of three ambulances, one Advanced Life Support chase vehicle, and one Basic Life Support chase car. Purcellville Rescue has remained an all-volunteer organization for its entire existance, and members work thousands of man-hours and respond to approximately 1,000 calls per year.
Purcellville Volunteer Rescue Squad is constantly growing and improving. Every month, more people decide to give back to their community and volunteer, and existing members continue to build upon their education by attending classes, precepting on calls, and researching new concepts.
